Scientists identified 3 different types of asbestos exposure that can lead to the development of the disease mesothelioma.. The first group of mesothelioma cases were the result of a minimal exposure. The patients were exposed to high concentration of the toxic fibers, but only for a short period. The second group to a similarly high concentration of asbestos but exposed much longer.time. The third group of patients were exposed to a low concentration, but for a longer period of time.

In each instance of the type of exposure led to a different possibilities of disease and at different levels of exposures. In the first group the patients were more prone to develop lung problems than to come down with a full case of asbestosis, but in this group there is a greater possibility to develop mesothelioma..

The patients in the second group will most likely die, before they can acquire mesothelioma. This group usually suffer short-term complications of asbestosis with their immune system greatly compromised, leading to a host of different complications and infections

.The third group will develop health problems gradually and have a lower risk of mesothelioma development but due to long time exposure will often lead to life threatening conditions. In all the groups, the exposure to asbestos has lead to severe complications that develop throughout the patients life.

The research, procedures and development that focus on early detection are very important. The fact is that early detection saves many lives. Mesothelioma most often can be effectively treated in its early stages, but the stages are systematic and the disease progresses rapidly through the stages with life threatening conditions.
